When Reggie Nkabinde and childhood sweetheart Beauty Matela got married recently, the huge wedding cake worth more than R60 000 surprised guests.
But although the guests wanted to have a taste of it, Reggie decided to give it away instead.
He took half the cake to an orphanage, and the other half went to a home for the aged.
Reggie, an ANC Youth League treasurer-general and boss of record label Mabala Noise, said giving back to the community was close to his heart.
“I decided to go to my home village to help the orphans and the elderly.”
Yesterday, the couple donated the 100kg wedding cake to a group of gogos, the Siyabonga senior citizens.
It was shared with an orphanage in Umkhomazi, District 49 Place of Safety.
The handover was witnessed by Umdoni deputy mayor Sibongile Khathi and Reggie’s wife.
The cake was covered in sugar pearls and more than 2000 sugar flowers‚ including handmade roses‚ orchids‚ hydrangeas and small daisies.
Reggie donates groceries to places in need every year on his birthday.
“This is me. I’m always in touch with my community.”
He said he’d return to his home village in December to host Christmas parties for old age homes and orphanages.
