A group of Zimbabwean women in South Africa have come together and formed a church they have decided to call Zozoist Fellowship Church. The assortment of women from all walks of life spanning from domestic workers to powerful office bearers in South Africa say the church is named in honour of Zodwa WaBantu.
“Zodwa has shown us the path to spiritual liberation, and it begins with physical liberation,” says the church’s leader Prophet Mirriam. “We were in bondage in Zimbabwe, and we came to South Africa seeking freedom. But we did not realise that freedom until we saw Zodwa standing up to old men from Zimbabwe who spent time discussing whether women are wearing underwear or not.”
The church is inviting more women seeking absolute freedom to join them. They say to them, Zodwa is like what Mohammed is to Muslims, the chosen one.
