FOUR of the six men who allegedly attacked a couple at a KFC store in Montana, north of Tshwane, have been arrested.
Three are behind bars and the fourth suspect is out on bail.
Police are searching for the other two who managed to escape. The four were arrested at the scene of the incident after police were called in.
According to witnesses, the black couple was assaulted after they asked a driver in front of them at the drive-through to move forward.
But rather than move forward, the men got out of their car and started beating the man. When the woman tried to stop them, they attacked her as well.
The fight continued as people watched in horror and police were later called.
On Friday, the video of the assault went viral, causing tempers to flare.
Police spokesman Kay Makhubele said the four suspects appeared in the Pretoria North Magistrates Court.
He said: “Three of the suspects were refused bail because of their profiles and previous convictions. They will be applying for bail on Friday.”
Meanwhile, Minister of Police Fikile Mbalula took to Twitter to condemn the incident. “I’ve notified police to attend to this with urgency,” he tweeted.
KFC South Africa also took to Twitter to express its shock at the incident.
“We’re shocked at this footage and have been working on finding out more.
“We stand against acts of violence and find the behaviour in this footage inexcusable.”
