Residents of Vuwani have taken their strike to another level, they are now burning down their own houses to let the government know how serious they want to be moved back to their old municipality.
The Makhado task team leader said the people agreed that they will be burning two homes per day in their villages until they are moved back to their original municipality.
“So far we have burned down six homes, the longer they take to take us back the more homes we burn.” said one of the protesters.
Asked how that will help, the leader said “we want them to realise how bad we want to be moved back. When they realise how many RDP’s they will have to build eventually they will act fast”
Fire services is not allowed in these villages so the houses that have been burnt so far were burnt to the ground.
